The Karlsruhe House of Young Scientists (KHYS) is the central service and co-ordination point of support designed for young scientists at the KIT. It addresses all graduates and post-docs (up until two years after their doctorate) and their mentors.
The KHYS accompanies the structured doctoral programs especially in development and execution of the mentoring and qualification concept. As a communication interface, it ensures cross-linking of the doctoral programs at the KIT. In addition the KHYS, in close cooperation with existing structured doctoral programs at the faculties of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), develops minimum standards for mentoring and qualification concepts. The KHYS has been part of the application procedure since the beginning and reinforces applications by letters of support.
Being an inter-faculty network, the KHYS contributes to an open scientific and transdisciplinary exchange promoting the establishment and intensification of international contacts. Towards this end, the KHYS awards fellowships for stays abroad at universities and with industrial companies, and supports or organizes graduate symposia, workshops, and summer schools. The KHYS offers a broad transdisciplinary range of advanced training possibilities on which the Graduate School can draw on in designing its modules.
